United Methodist Women Overview

Since its beginning in 1869, United Methodist Women has focused on ministries with women and children because these groups were legally classified as "chattel, legally dead, non-persons."  Today the purpose of UMW as adopted by the General Conference of the United Methodist Church as the official Mission Statement of UMW is:
"United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church."

The entire program and organization of United Methodist Women focuses on mission.  Our mission initiatives include:

  • Providing opportunities to grow spiritually
  • Equipping women and girls to be leaders
  • Providing transformative educational experiences
  • Organizing for growth and flexibility
  • Working for justice through service and advocacy

United Methodist Women is trusted with pledges and donations from individual members and local member organizations as well as mission partners and anonymous donors who have a heart for mission.  We support programs in the United States and around the world that benefit women, children, and youth.  As an agency of the United Methodist Church, UMW abides by the Social Principles and Discipline as determined by General Conference, giving only to projects in accordance with those guidelines.

All women of the church are invited to join UMW.

At this time, we are looking for a President to lead our church's unit of UMW.  If you are interested, please contact Gail Schadler, Phyllis McKinley, or Ruth Baker.
